A surprisingly strong contender in the gaming headset world

The Logitech G522 LIGHTSPEED headset is one of those products that I expected to be fine. Just fine. Plug it in, test the sound, look at the RGB, call it a day. But after wearing it during some pretty intense Battlefield sessions and pushing it through both editing and voice recording, this headset ended up surprising me in the best ways.

Let’s start with the design. Logitech kept things simple but clean. The RGB shines through on the panels without looking like a rave. The frame is lightweight and balanced, and the clear left and right markings help when grabbing the headset quickly. The suspension band is doing real work here. I put hours into a single match one night and it never clamped my head into dust.

The controls feel intuitive. Mute the mic and a red LED shows up right on the microphone. It is such a small detail but it makes a big difference, especially when you are streaming or in a high pressure moment where checking a software panel is not realistic.

The connectivity is where this headset shines as a daily driver. LIGHTSPEED wireless for low latency gaming. Bluetooth for your phone. Wired for anything else. Swapping is simple and fast and does not require digging through menus. If you bounce between devices the way I do, tri mode support saves time and sanity.

Sound quality is surprisingly solid. There is noticeable punch in explosions without drowning out voices or footsteps. Footstep range was actually better than some headsets I have tested that cost more. The low distortion really helps the mix stay clean. I never felt like the audio was collapsing into mud even during chaotic scenes.

Now the microphone. This entire review and the video connected to it were recorded using the microphone on the G522 itself. Not my RE20. Not a shotgun mic. Just the headset. I expected a “gaming headset microphone” sound but instead it came through much clearer than I imagined. It will not replace a studio mic but for streaming, Discord or in game comms, it is absolutely respectable.

Overall, the Logitech G522 LIGHTSPEED feels like a complete package. Strong audio performance, comfortable fit, a legit mic, and easy connectivity. For the price, it is one of the better headset releases this year and worth considering whether you are gaming, working or just want one headset that can do everything.
