Wildstar Wildstar Business Model Revealed.

In WoW, this was mini-pets. I spent the time to farm my first set of pets. I sold said pets for a good price. I then kept an eye out for pets at a low price, and sold at a high price. Farmed during my off time for gambling odd drops. Leveled alts specifically to farm pets (I had a pattern that resulted VERY high yields). While leveling these alts while farming pets, I also leveled every across different characters tradeskill and farmed mats. with the alts. In the process of pets, also found tons of BoE epics and rares and sold them in good markets.

These things were a gold mine. I didn't farm too much b'c it was not only boring, but my luck on drops is never good. I did play the hell out of the AH w/them though and made a killing.

But they aren't rare loot drops. Anyone with a credit card can get one. Day one will see some high prices that no one can pay right off the bat, then they will be undercut to the floor. Once at the floor they will be slowly bought up in the first day or 2 while people level and earn money. By the end of the first 2 days the price will stabilize to what the (young) market will bear. As more people level and have time to buy CREDD with gold the price will inch up. That rising price will get higher an higher as a bigger percentage of players reach cap and don't feel like they need to spend their gold on essentials like gear and leveling stuff.

So yes, Hour 1 will see high prices that no one can purchase at. Then the market will crash (undercutters) until people can actually buy the CREDD for gold then it will start to stabilize and move up again with fluctuations.

Right, but their function is the same. The only difference is that the price on them will drop much faster than a rare loot drop b'c they can be obtained so easily. What will be really interesting is to see how low those prices get those first few days/weeks. Will the people paying real money for them really sell them at a super low price or will they be smart about it and keep them at a higher price and let the economy catch up to them?

GW2 has an ingame store so it's not a very appropriate example as you have alot more people buying gems just to buy cosmetic stuff and other waste of cash items everytime Anet put out a patch. And you can see on the graph when that happens, patch comes out with new and more interesting cosmetics value goes up.
With CREDD you can only buy one thing (game time), so apart from the leveling process with no gold, unless CREDD is changed to buy other stuff it will remain alot more stable in value (unlike the gems) until gold is made alot more achievable (2-3 years and an expansion in taking example from other games).
sure, but people still want gold that they don't have to get stuff. Especially rare stuff which we know this game will have. There will be hurdles to get really rare things, and people will want to sell these things for gold. Those that can't get them from work will turn to getting gold. Most of the people buying CREDD will do so to get more gold to buy that thing.

Anyway, I am still of the idea (and so are major journalists like IGN and other sites), that this hybrid model is made mostly to allow the new generation of F2P customers to have their share of the game...
And that is an amazing idea. There is nothing wrong with wanting to get a bigger base of people who want to get into your game. The problem would come along if they try to cater to one group or another by changing the game. I don't think Carbine will do this from what I have read and heard from them.

people are dumb and greedy. They will unload their CREDD at super low prices in the first day(s) just you watch.

If I can stockpile a year or so worth of CREDD subs within the first couple months, I'll be a happy boy. Then I can it on them for a whole year (when my first sub wears off) and either sell them if the price is good, or use them for game time if not.

If you can hold them for even a month or 2 the price will be way up. A whole year and you will make bank.

Honestly with the way everyone is thinking we should just make a Guild Investment of In game currency for CREDD program. Just have everyone that is interested Dump X amount of Currency into a Pool and then pay out everyone after X amount of time. everybody wins.

Sounds like a good way to turn friends into enemies. Few things sink a relationship faster than going into business together.

Oh yeahhhhh, this is great.
I'm so happy they decided to go this route.
This also means that I can buy in-game time for friends if they want to try out the game.
Looks like I'm going to have to get rich quick.

Think I may have found a more definitive answer to the "can you resell CREDD on the CX if you buy it from there" question.

"But some people don’t like subscriptions. Maybe they just want to play for free, maybe they’ve been burned by a subscription game before and dislike the model. OK, we hear you – for you guys we have C.R.E.D.D.

This is an item that can be purchased online at the WildStar website, and can then be bought and sold with other players in-game. This trading happens via the Commodities Exchange – basically a stock market that lets you trade C.R.E.D.D. to other players for earned in-game gold."

That's what I was hoping to see - woot! :)

Just a note, from http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/the-game/business-model/

Can I give / gift C.R.E.D.D. to my friends?

No you can’t give/gift C.R.E.D.D.
At this time players will be only be able to get C.R.E.D.D. by purchasing it on our website or by buying/selling it for in-game money on the Commodities Exchange.

I don't think you would need. And CREDD is $19.99. Would be even better to go to your local retailer, buy game time card, then just give them the code. Cheaper =)

I'm sure they have many reasons for doing this, but it's possible that they did this to alleviate "hiring" players to do jobs for you and then paying them w/CREDDs.

makes sense, but ultimately Gold will be used the same way so I guess in a way you can gift CREDD. just pay with Gold in the amount that CREDD is currently going for. it's going to work out nicely, I can't wait. great system

Anytime you have a way to exchange real money for gold, pay to win comes into play. Granted, the best gear SHOULD be BOP from raiding or PvP, but one could convert money to CREDD to gold and buy all the best stuff gold can buy overnight. It remains to be seen if that would be terribly efficient or not, though.

That happens w/any MMO though. It's just a matter of which system the player's use. If there isn't one, then hi-ho-hi-ho it's off to the gold farmers they go.
