Silkies: The Furry Chicken.

Today, I discovered the Silkie.

They're chickens that have feathers that resemble fur. Apparently they're very nice and make good pets.

My wife's family raised silkies while she was growing up, she showed them at 4H.

I ate them a couple times at her place. All the meat is dark and the veins and bones are dark black.

According to my wife, they are good mommas, often used to brood Pheasant eggs or other species that aren't as motherly. They also have 5 toes, which is pretty unique for a chicken. Still no opposable thumb, though, so they can't do your homework.
