Caution, if you're thinking that your server choice will have no effect on the PvE aspect of the game, you might be in for an unpleasant surprise: It looks like the promised "guesting" feature that allows you to join your friends' worlds and explore the PvE aspect of the game together won't be implemented upon launch.

This was posted in guildwars2.com's news section yesterday:

In time, we’ll also introduce free “guesting,” which will allow players to visit other worlds as guests as long as they have friends on those worlds. This feature will be free, but guest players will not be able to enter World vs. World, and the Power of the Mists bonuses from their home world will continue to apply to their characters.

So if you're looking to play Guild Wars 2 with your friends on day one, make sure you all pick the same world for your characters. While there have been hints that world transfers will be free for a limited amount of time, a clear official statement on this matter is still pending.

I am honestly curious just how quickly the servers are going to fill up. I know I will be clicking furiously 3 hrs prior to 0:00PST, and waiting on mumble to notify others or listening for 'ITS LIVE!!!'. There's no way that in those first few minutes you won't get on the server... no way. I will be curious how that plays out after 0:00PST and how quickly it breeches capacity. Will it be within the first few hours, day, etc?

Personally reckon certain servers will fill up almost instantly. within minutes. I mean, if the beta's are anything to go by it was like 15-20 minutes before approximately 5 or so American servers were full.

I wonder, is this a choice on their part to make things easier for the servers in the beginning? Or are they having trouble with the system and don't think it will be ready in time?

So far the only experience I have with the guesting system has been hearing that people were having trouble getting it to work. That was during the stress tests though so maybe that had something to do with it. Was anyone here able to guest during the beta weekends?

Yea, those first couple of hours will be a real stress test - people aren't just logging in to get a spot on the world/server of their choice, it'll be a race to reserve nicknames for their characters.
I'm curious how the servers will handle the load, though I'm expecting a fair share of frustration within the first hours upon server launch.
