Okay, thought I'd post a thread for anyone interested in ESO. Redomen made some good posts in the introduction to ESO thread, but I thought it might be better to follow here.
Screw your choice. Who do you think is going to win? This game is somewhat about warring factions, and I think there will be a lot more crossover between what is PvE content and what is PvP content in this game than GW2, at least. We know what happens in Cyrodiil(PvP) will directly benefit the PvE side of things. There will be one giant megaserver so, if your side's losing in large-scale PvP in Cyrodiil, that's less fortunate for you. Rumor has it that there may be a lot of PvE mixed in with your PvP too. I tend to see things with PvP-tinted eyes, and I like all that news, so I'll comment about what I think are some advantages and disadvantages to the factions, and maybe a little about what I feel is going on with those races in general. I'm definitely not an Elder Scrolls lore master, so I probably won't much go there. I also have extreme bias. I'm totally speculating and don't seriously claim to know anything. Just my opinions here.
EBONHEART PACT
Nord(barbarians)
Dunmer(dark elf)
Argonian(lizardmen)
Skyrim. That's all that's really needed to know about Ebonheart Pact, but my view goes this way... Nords are the most popular race in ESO. They swell Ebonheart Pact to numbers almost equal to the other two teams combined in most ESO fansite polls. This is because a lot of Skyrim fanboys are in love with their Nord characters, and don't want to part with them. In my opinion, they'll have the worst player skill per capita.
Nords are kind of the dominant race here, and the others are the bitches. I'm pretty sure a lot of would-be Dunmer(dark elves) are going to find their Nord-centric teammates obnoxious, and their player population will dramatically decline. This will be a bad development for that team since Dunmer make up most the players going spellcaster for them. It may not play that way, but it's my prediction.
They're also considered the most unlikely alliance between races that should otherwise hate eachother based on the lore. For some reason, this appeals to a lot of people. Doesn't much matter, however, because they're overwhelmingly Nord, with a minority of Dunmer, and almost no Agronians. Those Nord players will almost all play melee-types, and this team is going to have severe imbalance. Unless combat mechanics prove melee>stealth>range/spells , I believe Ebonheart Pact is about to get rocked! However, the vast majority of ESO fans, at this time, think Ebonheart Pact is destined to dominate. If you think numbers always win, then this is your side.
ALDMERI DOMINION
Altmer(high elf)
Khajiit(cat people)
Bosmer(wood elf)
These are the most logically allied races, since the Bosmer can see they relate to the Altmer, something about the ears, and the Khajiit fanatically support high elf rule. I think they'll be a well-motivated, cohesive fighting force in Cyrodiiil, although few in number.
It's generally believed that Aldmeri Dominion is going to be the weakest faction, since they are polling least popular. I don't think so, mainly because of lore reasons connected to the dominant Altmer race. I'm one of rare opinion that when it comes to PvP, how players see their characters and their disposition is quite important, with the most aggressive sides almost always winning, or at least bringing a damn good fight. I suspect since they are perceived as being the badguys here by players familiarized to lore by Skyrim, those players will have serious plans for their characters in-game to dominate the other two teams. They'll be far more skilled and intelligent than the Nord kids, as veteran players choosing Altmer do so knowing their presumed faction's weakness.
They have Khajiit and Khajiit are the most awesome race in Elder Scrolls. That's a fact!
I believe this team will be challenged, however, in more than numbers, because half the players choosing elf will be doing so because they want to roleplay pretty flower-children in the forest. They shouldn't be on Cyrodiil PvP campaigns, but... well, if they are, I don't know how well that's going to go. They're also likely to be mage heavy.
DAGGERFALL COVENENT
Breton(half-elf men)
Redguard(arab/black)
Orc
Daggerfall Covenent is generally thought of as the side that best represents the human race, and seeks to restore the Empire that has fallen into corruption and demon worship. Their focus is mostly on trade and diplomacy, and they are ready to go to war mainly for economic reasons. I don't know why they're seen as the team representing humans, since Bretons have some elven ancestry, making them proficient at magic.
I find their cause less inspired than the other factions, which means players may be slightly less motivated to win, but I believe this team is going to be the most balanced of the three, having strong melee in the Redguard and Orcs, and strong magic from the Bretons. I expect they'll be slightly rogue and stealth heavy. Redguard are primarily warriors, but they're kind of well known as assassin types. And, of course, a lot of people saw that trailer with badass ninja Breton and will copy.
I think this team will shape up to be somewhere in the middle in outright power, or rather, perceived power. Since the Nords,... err, I mean, Ebonheart Pact, are likely to field so many players, I suspect Daggerfall and Dominion may end up tag teaming the greatest threat, which from the beginning of most campaigns will likely be the Nord zerg. Once that's dealt with,...
Daggerfall Convenent will be the underdog that is going to win in Cyrodiil. My heart is with Aldmeri Dominion, but I just don't think they can pull it off. Daggerfall crowns the 1st player Emperor, fo' sure. You heard it first from me.
What's your take, if you have any yet? Let me know if I'm dead wrong about all that. Also, if you don't much care about factions, or have no interest in PvP stuffs, you're very welcome to reply here with what races you think are best for whatever reason.
