The new patch for D3 hit yesterday and the devs frantic attempts to save the game continue.
The new patch includes the ability to set the "Monster Power" of the game to 1-10. Each level increases the difficulty, but also boosts your magic find, gold find, and chance for "extra" loot drops. It also added an "Infernal Machine" that opens portal to a special 2 on 1 boss fight. That fight has a chance to drop one of three parts of the new legendary Hellfire Ring. The ring is solid, but not uber amazing. It has 100+ of 1-2 core stats, a chance to shoot a fireball on proc, and 35% exp boost. The ring is account bound and unique on equip, so you could have multiples of it. Since there is no min level requirement, your level 1 toon can rock it out and pwn face in lowbie land (since everyone wants that for end game).
Last night, I set my difficulty at level 3 (which I heard is roughly equivalent to slightly more difficult that normal). I definitely noticed the increased health and dmg or normal mobs, I actually had to kite a few of them. Elites were pretty beastly and I died several times before I learned to respect them a bit more.
I definitely noticed an increase of drops. It was literally a sea of blue gear with almost every normal mob dropping a peice or two. I don't think I saw much of an increase in rare gear, though, which is unfortunate. The peices I did find, however, were of higher level and quality than normal, so I found more peices to sell on the AH than normal.
I don't plan on diving back into D3 full time, but the new content is interesting enough to keep me from deleting it entirely. Mowing down hordes of demons will be a good change of pace from time to time.
