Nay good sir

Main Character Name

What role do you wish to play in the guild? For example: PvP, PvE, Casual/Social
Apologies in advance. I err'd on the side of writing a lot vs not writing enough for y'all to get a feel for me.
What role?
Honestly not sure. I’m still feeling out my niche in GW2, but in previous MMOs I loved all things PvP. PvP / WvW will probably be end-game for me.

I would absolutely love to do some Art of War craziness in WvW. I love the idea of actually forming a battle plan against another server, rallying our server together, and shattering with it. Flanking maneuvers, choke points, supply blockading, Siege fortifications. All of it.

Love it when a plan comes together.

Lots of my friends in RL play WoW. I’ve since stepped down from the position, but I became de facto treasurer. I had a tendency to make around 50-75k gold a month during Cataclysm by trading the AH like a commodities market. Eventually they realized I was giving all my money to the guild bank (cause, honestly, what the hell do you do with 20k in that game? I don’t care about gear or collectables. I just wanted my friends to have a good time with me.)
More on that later.

Which previous MMO's or online games have you played and how long for?
UO started me off. I was like...15 when I played the game. I still remember the first time I died in the game was because I was losing a fight with a deer and I logged out thinking “HA, dodged THAT bullet”

Awww hell.
Youth.

Played SWG for about a year, before they did their terrible re-envisioning of it. I was dead-set, along with thousands of others I’m sure, on being the first to unlock the Jedi role in the game. When they started releasing puzzles for players to figure out to give hints to how, I spent way too much time trying to decrypt them in the forums. Actually joined a bunch of people trying to crack the riddles.

And I remember being angry when it was revealed that all you had to do was master different professions that had secretly been flagged in your character at creation. It seemed wholly symbolic of their disconnect with the players. Let’s do the ONE THING that virtually NO ONE does in an MMO, and make that the pathway the the thing everyone wants.

Then when I heard how broken it was...and non-canonical... You couldn’t reach the Jedi Master tree because the quest-line promoting you was broken. For months. Then I’d heard how the few people who were Jedi remarked how stupid it was that they needed armor to survive. Jedi don’t wear armor. Sith do. And some Force Powers didn’t work apparently?
/facepalm.
I joined a server wide player demonstration in Theed, Naboo shortly after that. Their solution to dealing with it was to shut down the servers temporarily. LoL.

Followed by WoW from 3.0 on. RL friends got me into the game. I min-max’d the hell out of my mage. I love numbers, and breaking game features, so I’d often go into PUG raids under-geared. Gear felt like a crutch to me compared to learning how each stat has synergy with the others.

So...Pretty much UO (2 yrs), SWG (1 yr), and WoW (3.0 on).

Were you a part of a guild? What was your experience?
In UO I was a part of a guild called Sovereign Cruscaders of the Sun. I honestly don’t remember much about it. Though I was close to the members for a short while. This was all before MySpace and such, so we had things like IRC chat that we used to keep in touch with.

In WoW I was a member of a few guilds. One I actually server transfer’d from because the guild leader, well...just made things incredibly uncomfortable for me.

I’m in the entertainment industry, and mentioned it to her in passing one night online. She asked if I had any performances or pictures of myself up anywhere. I said sure.
...
Before all of this, she was absolutely one of the most chill Guild Leaders I’d ever been under. Not a single strange red flag anywhere on the field.

Passing over the gritty, she joked about things you aren’t ever supposed to joke about with someone [hint: it involves words we’re strongly discouraged from using according to that post all recruits are supposed to read].Multiple times a day. For a month straight. So I logged out.

For two months.
Then a server transfer.

The guild I’m currently a part of in WoW is Sons of Hellscream. A horde based guild composed almost entirely of RL friends. Eventually became treasurer. Other stories about this guild are more relevant to other sections of the application.

So...Not to be a record player, but more on this later also. LoL

How did you hear about the Guild?
This one’s awfully short.

I was excited about GW2, but play on a Mac. At the time there was no Beta, and I didn’t know I could emulate it on WINE yet, so I started going through live streams.

Tr1age’s was the first stream I saw that was interesting, inclusive of a core group of people, and chill. No pressure. I recall seeing an officer in the forums (Rook?) post something about how GW2 was a game you didn’t have to wake up and feel obligated to run weekly’s or prep for dungeons. And there was relief.

That.

What will you bring to the ALTTABME community? (Chatty? Skilled? Funny? Helping?)
How many applicants say “a little bit of everything” to this?
...
*kicks dust*
umm...
A little bit of everything?

Again, I somehow feel as though you’ll get a better feel of what I’d bring to the community via what I write under the “Anything else you’d like to know” section of this application. So.
...

More on this later.

Will Arcanix be the only guild you join?
I sincerely just want to find someplace that is fun and I’ll fit in to. If that becomes Arcanix, then yes. It’ll be the only one I join.

Is there anything else you would like to throw in here at the end?
HERE GOES.
*Takes needle off of broken record*

I love...*love* to do unique things within a game that the game itself isn’t necessarily designed for. Most of what follows is somehow an example of that.

I took a break from UO for awhile in game. like half a year or so. When I came back I decided to create an event around it. My best friend happened to play also, so I got him to help.

I played a mage type. In game, there’s a spell called Incognito which temporarily changes your name. So I wrote this whole story out about how my friend had discovered me washed ashore (he and I co-owned an incredibly rare house on the edge of town right on the beach. Only house on a beach in the entire island due to placement restrictions), and I couldn’t remember who I was...But I had these! (insert clues to past life)

It began a quest line that eventually took us all the way to the one cave in game that was chock full of dragons. So we fought our way through. Got to the ankh at the end. Killed time in character until the spell wore off. Revealing my name.

Then I was back with the guild! (and there was much rejoicing! Yaaaaaaay)
Was a lot of fun. :)

Later on In-game I stumbled on the lodgings of the most notorious Player Killer on my server. A guy named Ezekiel. In UO, if a player kills you, you have the option of putting a bounty on their head. And, as a player killer, if you die you have to spend something like 2-8 hours as a ghost for each person you’ve killed. So it was like Diablo’s hardcore mode for an MMO.

Ezekiel had millions of gold on his head. And I stumbled on to where he lived.

So I arranged a small hunting party of 6 guild members. We went to his house. Ambushed him. One friend of his flanked us. 6v2. They won. (damn they were good). Later I heard he had his friend kill him, turn in his head, and they split the profit. Genius.

In SWG I was a Rebel Spy.
Later on on the game’s life, but before the re-boot, guilds had the option of declaring a faction alignment. Rebel. Empire. I was friends with the guild leader of the largest openly Rebel guild on the server. I really liked the guy. We got along well. But other than him, I was only close to one other person in the guild. Also an officer.

So I made a proposal to them.
I would quit the guild. Join the equally large Empire faction, and spy for them. Good God was that fun.

At one point, the Empire aligned faction discovered where the guild kept it’s HQ/Guild hall. They started designing an attack. I wasn’t an officer, so I didn’t hear about the attack till the day of. I warned the guild. The battle began. And I relayed all the battle plans to the Officer and GL.

I remember one moment when I ran across the Officer friend I knew on the battlefield. He had a guild member with him. The guildie (seeing a member of the empire) immediately opened fire. It was funny watching the Officer demand he stop attacking me. “Why?” “Because. Trust me. That’s an order.”

Then we walked to a nearby medical lab, where he stayed with me to ensure I wouldn’t be killed while I relayed their battle plans. (Which, honestly, eventually became just a whole lot of “Team ___, Flank them from ____!”)

With WoW...I just made a crapload of money. So I became guild treasurer.
Eventually I started making enough money that I made an open arrangement with all core guild members. If you saw a gear upgrade on the AH, and could foot half of the cost, I would pay for the other half of it. In Cata, this meant I’d pay out 2-10k to guild members frequently. Just because. (Though I always bought the item. I knew the market.) Eventually the guild started joking that all I ever do in WoW is raid AH, HM.

That’s all game stuff.

In RL? I’m an artist. Been a career actor for most of the last 6-7 years. Been in a band for less than a year, and we may already get signed to a big management company. (*may*). I’ve been writing stories and the like for as long as I can remember. Hope to release a small book by the end of the year. And I rock-climb.

The most relaxing day I can ever have is waking up and creating. Pure and simple.
:)
And on that note. Got some of that stuff I have to do.

Cheers!

(P.S., Tr1age. I love your photography man. :D Seriously. It’s way too good.)

Have you finished all of the prerequisite requirements?
Yes

I think this got a little lost in our reworking of the site :p

It's definitely a nice change of pace to see someone put the effort into the site and into their application. You've definitely had a lot of experience in MMO's, game wise and socially. Other than having to really sit down and read the entire app a few times to decipher it all, +1 on my end.

And sorry for the 2 day delayed response! Like I said, it got kinda lost in transition <3

I also approve of this. Do us a favor though and message back so we know we didn't lose ya. :)
