GW2 Dungeons and Fractals

I thought I'd get some community opinions on the high-end PvE content in GW2, given that that's both my officer position and my major interest in the game.

What is your favorite dungeon? Do you regularly run any dungeons for fun, profit or all 3?

How far have your progressed in fractals and what are your thoughts on it? (there's no shame in have minimal progression as many people are waiting on the patch so they can get a group without the current issues).

My favorite dungeon is still AC exp - it's a quick and easy daily money maker. HotW is a close second, with the ability to use tokens to buy yellows and ecto farm. AC is WAY easier to get a group for however.

After some serious pushing, I finally got to fractals 30 this weekend. Why? You should get at least one exotic item per run. If you're lucky it won't be an account bound generic 'Torch'. I love the ascended rings, I love my fractal capacitor, and I REALLY love the cheap 20 slot bags...
Best of all, it's where the most skilled players in the game hang out - it's quite inspirational to see everyone cooperate so well with no voice chat.

If you have a negative experience of dungeons, please share that too!

Sadly I haven't run that many dungeons. I don't like to PUG, and I'm a pretty casual player. So I like to do things for the 'experience' moreso than the loot. I haven't tried Fractals yet, would like to do that sometime. I have run AC Explorable/Story mode, way back when the game first started. And recently I was lucky to join Kbambz, Lewen, Magg, Strange on a Gilligan's Island run of Arah (aka - a three hour tour, LOL).

When it comes to dungeons, I feel like -- because of my play style, and not always keeping up with pro players -- that I am not much help to the team. I don't want to make people carry me through, but I definitely like to think I am helping. LOL

I hope to participate in more dungeon runs, WvW (which I have never done), SPvP (which I am clueless about), as well as other fun guild events like the Quaggan WvW and Charr Diving Board excursion. :D

I was going to get back into things and run dungeons/fractals but I cant bring myself to PuG. I think I was scarred one too many times by WoW groups, regardless of the community.

Due to my graveyard shift I am also on in the afternoon/early evening on work days. Hard to get groups together at that time. I will say I find fractals to be quite enjoyable and AC and HotW are definitely the easiest explorables to do.

PUGs really aren't so bad anymore. Maybe it's just the people who use GW2LFG, or maybe it's just the people who are on late-night in the US, but I haven't had a bad experience in a long time. Even the people who are hopelessly awful are still typically nice people.

Oh when I mentioned people being on I was referring to guildies. Maybe I just need to give it a go tomorrow...err later today

to be honest even tho my experience with dungeons is limited almost exclusively to Citadel of Flames Explorable and a couple of story modes plus Fotm lv2 I haven't had any bad experiences so far... but I have been leveling my warrior and I'm really invested into that atm, after I hit 80 with Thorfinn I will be dungeoning a lot... PVE has always been my main focus in mmorpgs.

BTW Dire how much gold can you make dungeoning? I know for a fact that playing the TP can't be beat if you know how to... but dungeons are second best right?

I don't think I've tried a "dungeon" besides fractals since September. I'm about half way (if that) to my dungeon master title. That's something I should really start working towards again. I'll set up a list later today, maybe get some guildies to hit dungeons again.

See I would totally roll with guildies for that.

An AC exp run nets you about 3.5 gold per day, lasting 1h to 1.5h for three runs, depending on group experience. That does not include using 2-3 omnombery bars worth 3.5 silver-ish.

Bah. I'm sick of AC. I really want to get into Arah. Besides that first time where we spent like 5 hours on path 1 (and couldn't get lupicus down), I haven't been back.

I'd like to do Arah as well. Get to work on my Bifrost maybe. <_<

Ha, yeah. I started to kinda work on Kudzu again. Got discouraged when I went for mystic clovers and did the 10x recipe a few times. /badluck. Oh well. Now I know.

I was sick of AC for a long time after getting my armor set, but the speed run groups are a whole different game. It's hard to get sick of it if an entire run takes 20 mins.

As for Arah, it's damn hard to get a group, and half the people that do advertise are a little bit elitist. Then there's the issue of actually getting to the dungeon itself: if your group is spread over different servers and no one has the event chain competed, it's near impossible to get enough people to take the dungeon entrance in the final event.

Finally, don't use the 10x clover recipe...it's much more random* than the sine version repeated ten times. I tried the 10x version, got lucky once, then never used it again because I had too much to lose.

*statistically speaking, 10 attempts will get you 3.3 clovers on average, while the 10x recipe will get you 10 (33% chance) or ZERO (66% chance). I can explain probability distributions if someone really wants.

Yeah, I was set back a little bit in terms of skill points and karma (well, I used fractal relics....) so yeah. I'll be using the 1x from here on. I just wanted to gamble for a good payoff. I lost. lol

But back on the Arah, I noticed a lot of the gw2lfg people for arah were "KNOW YOUR SHIT" kinda people, so I stayed away for a bit. But hopefully I can get some interest from guildies who want to work towards their dungeon master title to get some random dungeon runs in when I'm online. Sadly I don't want to plan anything in advance, because I've been relatively fickle with things like that lately, too many IRL distractions. We'll see what happens tho.

I really want to do Arah! I'm working on getting Rhia to the area still, but I want some of the armor from there for looks & stats :)

I definitely want to do more dungeons. Ran SE Story with Red Omen, Keleynal and Kismet last night and it was lots of fun. Did Fractals 1 with LeftStep & some pugs earlier in the week as well and I enjoyed that (besides someone who ragequit because only two of the five group members knew how a specific boss worked. Boo!). I'm definitely up with running more dungeons and I'll be trying to organize more groups, though I'm out of town this week so it'll have to wait a bit for me :)

I've only done AC Story and SE Story and Fractals 1, so I don't really have a favorite dungeon. I have a few dungeons that I want armor from, but that's not really relevant xD

It was actually your organizing of groups that got me a little energetic towards doing dungeons again! Hopefully I'll be able to join some of your runs when you get back from your trip.

:D Awwwwww! I'll definitely be organizing more and am thinking of ways to get more support/survivability out of my necro. I actually started a post on a potential build, I'd appreciate your input on it :)

Sadly, I know absolutely NOTHING about necro's. You'd be better of listening to a tree. lol

I've run 3 dungeons, all with at least 2-3 guild members. i don't have much motivation right now to pug a dungeon. Once I'm in more of a farming mode rather than leveling, I might pug some to acquire dungeon sets or crafting components. For now, I'm OK with an occasional guild run.

Rhia, Kismet, Red Omen, and I ran SE story last night, and I think it went really well, even though we didn't have much of an idea about what we were doing. We had a lot of fun and completed the instance in a reasonable amount of time. I'd definitely be interested in doing that on a weekly basis.
