GW2 WvW Mes Healing/Support

Hey everyone!

I heard Tr1age mention he was thinking of a support/healing build for the Mesmer. Generally that's the role I play when I dive into MMO's. I'd been toying with a few different builds, and wound up liking this one (in theory).

Thought I'd share.

The build is centered around a couple of ideas.

1) Mantra of healing (with a talented decreased CD, and double efficiency) being used to frequently heal nearby allies, as well as triggering regeneration for all of said allies (through Rune of Dwayna) for it's maximum 50% uptime.

2) Phantasmal Healing. All allies near any phantasms gain regeneration. Just increases the effective uptime of regen on allies.

3) Treating the staff as a CD. When you have a large number of allies beating on, say, a massive door with lots of armor, swap to your staff and step into the middle of the group. Allow the weapon swap to go off CD. Cast Chaos Storm and Chaos Armor on yourself. Let the boons build for a small moment. Pop Time Warp. Use Sigil of Inspiration (which spreads ALL boons to nearby allies). Swap to Scepter/Focus, and lay down a Temporal Curtain near the door (for the combo finisher for all projectiles), as well as a Phantasmal Warden (projectile Defense). Additionally, using Null Shield where needed most.

4) Sigil of Hydromancy (on both Main Hands) and Temporal Curtain (w/ Improved Crippling via Sigil) should, hopefully, get you out of harm's way should someone try and solo you. Desperate Decoy as an additional failsafe. It's not a build to beat on someone with.

5) In the event someone starts owning the place up with siege weaponry, Illusion of Life is the backup.

In the end, you'll be supplying all nearby allies with stacks of boons with around 14% uptime, Healing small amounts of damage every 4-5 seconds (effectively), granting Regeneration over 50% of the time, Granting Vigor most of the time, and supporting with a combo field frequently, and should have decent survivability if you can react quickly enough to an attack.

I may play around with a non-mantra focused support build sometime over the next week. It just seemed to me that the more players there were around you (such as in WvW), the significantly more value the "Affect everyone around you" talents/abilities had.

Definitely not an sPvP build though.

Feedback appreciated (I don't have GW2 yet, and may not for another week or so). I'd love to dive into WvW.

I'd also love to know what the effective range on the "Affect everyone around you" talents/abilities is. If it's ridiculously small, then this build falls apart.

Cheers!

Basing major attacks or "moves" on an elite is strange to me. The cooldown doesn't allow for it to be useful. Plus beating n a door is not the way to roll. Killing off the walls and protecting siege hitting a wall is. I like the ideas behind this though. Im playing around with it more. I want to drop the Domination tree but I feel like that might gimp the attacks I have and their power.

Glad you like some of it! Thanks for writing back. :)

Siege > beating on the door makes a lot of sense.

Was just basing that part on the videos / live streams of WvW. Didn't feel like many players went for building siege things. :-/ (and I don't know enough about them to build a strat including them)

The whole cooldown sequence is something that's always worked well for me in other MMO's. Stacking as many buffs simultaneously with other CD sequences always gave it higher effectiveness (I had way way too much fun in Cataclysm in WoW two-three shotting full resil PvP players with my trinketed, potion'd, Arcane Power, Arcane Blast, and sometimes Bloodlust stacked Mage. Individually using those buffs on CD put her nowhere near as strong). Trying to translate that strat to GW2.

The Chaos Armor + Chaos Storm + Signet of Inspiration pop can be done every 40 second, iirc, with a duration of 5 seconds. Time Warp's CD being 210. So, approximately every five minutes you get "quickness" for 10 seconds, half of which is buffed.

Time felt like it rolled by pretty fast when I was watching WvW a few days ago. Hardly ever saw anyone pop the elite skill (Other than you and the hounds, I think there were a couple of other hounds and one mass invis. Relatively low compared to the number of players on the field). Part of me thinks it'd just be like "Oh look, it's back again."

And as for support elites go, I felt like it was stronger than Mass Invis? Though it'd be funny to Mass Invis the whole party bearing down the front of a gate.

"Where the hell'd they go?"

:D
