What's new

What Movie did you watch this weekend?

Lets try to limit this to new/recent releases.

Its Friday and that means something new just opened at your local theatre! (or you just downloaded a really shitty quality version of a movie). So tell me,

What did you see?
What did you think?
Would you recommend it to F&F?

This wasn't the last movie I saw in theatres, but it was, by far, my favorite all summer:

What did you see? Moonrise Kingdom
What did you think? Amazing. So much heart and character. Really captured the awkwardness of first adolescent love. I was skeptical about the kids, but they really channeled a Jason Schwartzman/Gwyneth Paltrow vibe. And not to mention the beautiful cinematography. Every shot was visually engaging and stunning which was further complimented by the amazing soundtrack. Par for the course for Wes Anderson.
Would you recommend it to F&F? I literally bought all my friends tickets and made sure they saw it.

I can only emphasize your recommendation. I watched it with my girlfriend, in a romantic art-house cinema that was so small, it only had 20 seats in total! Dark red walls and large red armchairs - the setting itself already looked like it came straight out of a Wes Anderson film. You had to walk through a crêperie and past a bar that only served wine to its patrons to get inside the cinema.

We absolutely adored the movie!
Probably my favorite Wes Anderson film after The Royal Tenenbaums, can't wait for the DVD!)

i finally saw dark knight and it was fucking awesome as a huge batman fan who spend untold hours reading comics as a child (and as an adult) i recommend it to anyone who still hasnt seen it.

Not going to make it to a movie this weekend, but this is a something new I saw last night:

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS: THE MUSICAL

YES, THIS EXISTS

It just opened in Los Angeles last week and was Gay A-MAAAY-ZIIING. Direct by Christopher Gattelli who recently won a Tony for the choreography of Newsies, Silence! The Musical is an off-broadway parody of the 5 academy award winning film from 1991. It was seriously hilarious as it was basically the movie, but they sang what they were doing. Specifically all the gratuitous cussing scenes became their own musical numbers. ("I can smell your--")

I highly recommended it if you live in LA or NYC.

Well this turned into a blog rather quickly. Not a movie going crowd are you :p Never the less I'm back with a double feature post. I saw DREDD 3D and Looper.

What did you see? DREDD 3D
What did you think? In a single word: Fun. It knew exactly what kind of movie it was and does not try to do anything more with the Dredd character that what is expected. Little back story or explanation, fun 3D sequences, and a sexy Olivia Thirlby who brings a fresh dimension to Karl Urban's Dredd. This movie was filmed in 3D and might be worth the up-charge. I normally hate 3D movies, but this one is one of the few that I actually walked out enjoying the 3D sequences. Bullet Time/Slow Motion is used as plot point and handled in a fun way.
Would you recommend it to F&F? There's lots of gore and blood typical to a Rambo/Expendables type action film. Fun, but not for a date.

What did you see? Looper
What did you think? Smart and Refreshing. DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT AN ACTION MOVIE. Its being marketed as an action flick, but is really more of a thriller/drama with whats best described as satirical action. With that in mind, its amazing seeing JGL mimic Bruce Willis not only in mannerisms, but appearance. He does an amazing job pulling off Bruce Willis. Also the story's narrative really captures you through a broad spectrum of emotions back to back on loop. Not your run of the mill Jason Bourne cookie cutter plot.
Would you recommend it to F&F? Very Much. Go see it now!
