Comrades of the Resistance,

once again it is time for us to unite our powers, to free our country from the evil government and its corrupted rulership! Let our enemies tremble at a revolution - the members of the Resistance have nothing to lose but their chains!

I have hand-picked you all for your reputation as loyal members of the Resistance, but be watchful: it has come to my attention that there are Spies among you who have been using their loyalty as a front - and with the unfailing evidence brought forth to me, I am afraid that the rumors are, in fact, true. Four of your comrades are Spies, and they will try to sabotage your missions with every chance given to them. You must weed them out before they drive three of your missions to failure!

Viva la Resistance!

Leaders (in randomized order):

Check this thread's original post for the game's rules, if you have any questions, ask me in PM or post them there!

Additional Rules:
While the original "The Resistance" game allows the Spies to identify each other before the game begins, we're taking a different route this time: all Spies are on their own, they will have to figure out who the other Spies are by social deduction, just like the Resistance members.
  • For the duration of the game, each participant will be granted group PM privileges - this means that you can message up to 10 people (a feature that is usually reserved for Premium Supporters of TAB).
  • You are encouraged to contact other players via PM - however you must always include your GM (me) in your conversations. This is merely for observational purposes, I will keep out of your conversations unless you address me directly.
  • You are NOT allowed to use any type of screenshots of other private messages in your PMs, nor are you allowed to quote a person from another private conversation. You may copy/paste what they have (or haven't!) said, but you are not allowed to use the "quote" code, for example:
    Tristan said:
Okay, you figured it out. I'm a Spy. But so what? Nobody will believe you anyway!
  • Once a group PM has been started, no other members can be added to the PM.
Have fun! :)

((Please do not post on this thread if you are not a part of this game - use this thread instead!))

Resistance in a nutshell (thanks Tig!):

Part 1
1 person chooses x number of players to go on a mission
all players vote yes or no on whether those players get to go on the mission.
if majority yes then mission starts
if majority no (or tie occurs) then new leader picks mission members and no penalty for the game.
if 5 teams are consecutively rejected, spies automatically win.

Part 2
once mission starts only players on mission vote succeed or fail
resistance can only vote succeed
spy can vote succeed or fail
if all vote succeed mission succeeds
if one or more vote fail then mission fails

Win conditions
3 succeeded missions and resistance wins
3 failed mission and spies wins
5 mission teams have been consecutively rejected: spies win.

All members have been granted temporary privileges to their in boxes for the game of The Resistance. You can invite unlimited amounts of other resistance players to a conversation and have as many as you like.

Oh all resistance players will be highlighted by the color YELLOW

PMs have been sent, so now the Resistance members and Spies alike know who they are!

We have ten players, which means that six of you are members of the Resistance (the good guys), and four of you are Spies.
The first mission's team must consist of three people; first up to lead a mission (and pick the team of three) is PsionicFox.

Let the backstabbing revolution begin!

Alright then. First mission!

For this mission, I'm going to place people I know on the team, and have spent time chatting to and playing with. So my team pick is myself, Diremongoose, and dainjre.

This first mission is usually a success story for the Resistance (yay!), so sadly this won't really tell us anything. Unless it fails. So lets have at it kids!

Who thinks this team is a good idea? Assuming I've chosen well and this team is successful, the Resistance are 33% of the way to victory!!

Psionic has made his pick, so here's the next step:

Each of you (including the team leader who picked the team) needs to PM me their votes regarding Psionic's team pick.
Do you like his suggestion? Yes or no?
Let me know via PM (do not post your vote here!), and once I have all of your votes, I'll reveal whether Psionic's team gets to go on the first mission or not!

Wow, 10 people in game and no one knows who they can trust. This definitely puts the Resistance in a much stronger position than other games. We may be able to win this before the spies can figure out what's going on.

It's actually very risky for spies to vote to sabotage missions. If more than one of them votes to sabotage, it reveals much more than normal.

Think twice before you vote to fail a mission, spies! You could hand us the game outright!

Well, the game has started so I'd like to point out the obvious, my status of "iSpy" has been set since the previous game, several months ago, and has no sinister overtones whatsoever. To change it now would appear to be an action of guilt and I have nothing to hide as I am not a spy. I probably should've changed it when I signed up for the game, but too late now! Consider it a warning, don't trust me. Trust no one but yourself! Try and figure things out logically.

You are not required to tell anyone your vote at this stage, but I will be voting Yes to this mission, pending any suspicious posting by the other two.

Speaking of which, not posting is one of the most suspicious things you can do. Say stuff, random shit, whatever you like! In this forum game the past remains exposed and we can go back and reevaluate what's been said to try and confirm or allay our suspicions.

I'll say it one last time. Do not trust me without good reason, I have the triangular eyes of a mongoose.

This first mission is very suspicious, putting oneself in a mission being a spy would be very advantageous for the spies. Even if it puts yourself at risk, you still have 3 comrades to pick up the pieces and bring down the resistance. Ill be very interested in the results of this first mission.

Given that no one, not even the spies, know who anyone is this time around, this first team pick is nothing but a dice roll. There's nothing to be gained by voting against it.

Personally, I think this is going to be a relatively easy win for the Resistance. If the spies don't vote to fail missions, we win. If multiple ones vote to fail the same mission, especially early on, we will also win. It's a nice Catch-22 for the spies.

But just voting yes doesn't automatically make you a resistance member, that's all I'm saying.

But just voting yes doesn't automatically make you a resistance member, that's all I'm saying.
Voting yes or no on this mission means equally nothing. With only 3 on it, there's a chance it could be all spies or all resistance with at least 1 of both left over. So no one can make an informed vote. If the mission is voted down, nothing will happen and nothing will be learned. That makes voting no even more pointless than voting yes, but only just.

But just voting yes doesn't automatically make you a resistance member, that's all I'm saying.
Of course not. As Kel pointed out, the randomness of the first mission means there's very little point in voting no, as we have no data to make a decision on. Then again, not having confidence to vote for your own mission needs justification, and there's no reason not to at this point.

I'm confident in the randomness of the current team to vote yes for it.

Which is irrelevant. But it does lead to an interesting scenario.

For arguments sake, lets say the two people I've chosen are spies. If even one of the votes for failure, that immediately tells us something. If both of them vote for 'fail', that gives me a huge advantage, because I can confirm the identity of TWO spies. And if I was a spy myself, then I'd know FOR SURE who most of my team was. This is no longer just a game about the spies or the resistance winning.

This is a game about 'can the players find someone to trust - and will that trust bring victory'. This just became a whole lot more tactical.

I fell sleep.... But anyhow! I am here, and ready to bring home the bacon. As mentioned before voting no is useless for first mission. Maybe that should be a rule first mission there is no voting? Anyway lets get this show on the road.

viva la revolucion!

We're trying to topple a corrupt government and you're suggesting no voting?! There MUST be voting. Voting = data. Data is GOOD completely fucking essential.

Well, you could still trick the rest of the group by voting no. I mean, if there is 1 person who voted no, that's a 2/3 chance that everyone outside of the mission may think someone else is the spy, while the other people in the mission have a 1/2 chance.

It's poor odds to be indentified, but no one can be 100% sure.

But I'm in the resistance. So I'll accept this everyone say yes and take an early lead :)
