Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm Opening Cinematic

Yeah thats just epic. Looking forward for the expanpansion but more for the story rather than the multiplayer. I had quite a lot of frustration in the WOL and i could only reach top of gold division.

I just got into Starcraft II back in the summer. In the two months off I got all of the single-player achievements and was then somehow placed in the gold league only to find myself struggling to beat bronze leagues.
Then I decided I was just gonna wait till HotS. Looking forward to playing the Zerg in a campaign too. I always felt the terrans were boring.

Edit: Another funny thing about Starcraft is that while there are some haters out there ("It's not like the original!" or "They're making us pay for the game three times! (I was pleasantly surprised to see HotS priced at $40, not $60)") almost everyone I see hating on Blizzard is because they hate WoW or Diablo 3. It's kinda like Starcraft is like that one thing that Blizzard didn't 'ruin' in the minds of many a player. Is it just me or is this a thing other people notice?

I think Starcraft 2 is comparable to the original; just enough new stuff not to be a re-make but not so radically different to break what worked. The multiplayer does seem to be a little more meta than I remember with the first game, I made it to platinum league in the first season but for me it loses the fun at that level. I'm much more entertained by giant carrier armadas crashing against impenetrable Terran death fortresses.

I thought Blizzard was being a little greedy splitting the game into 3 campaign "expansions" at first, but seeing the content and cinematics they've released for HoTS so far I have to say they've probably earned it. As much as I wanted to play a Protoss campaign right off the bat, they're really putting enough time and effort into the expansions to resemble entirely new games, making them worth the price in my opinion. Its basically an episodic format, but actually episodic as opposed to "Half-life" episodic.

Edit: Another funny thing about Starcraft is that while there are some haters out there...

-Really there are haters? I havent meet anyone yet. In this "era" there isnt a single RTS game that compete with sc2 (in multiplayer ofcourse)
-Also I dont understand the guys that say ""They're making us pay for the game three times!" Almost every succesful game has expansions. Even Gw2 will have.
-But I do believe that for an expansion 40$ is still much. I was hoping for 30~ but i guess its better than 60$.

I think Starcraft 2 is comparable to the original;
The only thing that dont really like is the "true" strategy element that doesnt exist. In all startcraft games. There is strategy ofcourse, but minor. I mean if you lose a big battle due to micro-mistakes you lost the game. Sometimes we compere pro players, not by their choices they made while they playing and there strategic decisions, but with their APM (EPM?) they have.

Yeah the APM thing is a little silly, particularly when you watch replays and can see that someone is just clicking the same patch of ground constantly for 10 seconds and not actually doing anything. I completely agree about the higher strategy, its called real-time strategy for a reason. Once you get to the level where its no longer strategy but rather how quickly and accurately you're clicking your mouse the effort to entertainment ratio gets unfavorable for me. I really like turn-based strategy games like the Civilization series for that reason, but RTSs will always have a special place in my heart.

Maybe haters was a strong thing to say. Critics.
And I do think it's stupid that if you watch people play, at the beginning of the game when you can't really do too much microing people will spam the drag-select-box over their mineral line to keep their APM up. But who really cares about that. I still had much fun with a comfortable...80APM or whatever the hell I had.

Well to tell the truth hight level game actually is, 1. player who remembers to make a worker, 2. a player who know the timings of upgraing expanding and pushing, thats all.
