Wildstar Paths and the Bartle Test

So, recently at PAX East a Wildstar developer mentioned Paths. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, it is basically like a sub-class that will determined the type of experience you have while leveling up. You can read more about it here if you would like.

During the video, the dev mentioned that the Path types are based on the Bartle Test personality types.

I personally never took or even heard of the Bartle Test before, so I decided to take it. Here's the result:

Personally I feel this is a bit off. I definitely enjoy exploring -- It was one of my favorite things to do in GW2. :p

So what's your gamer personality? You can take the test here: http://www.gamerdna.com/quizzes/bartle-test-of-gamer-psychology

Be sure to post the results!

I did this a while back and got Explorer. Ill do it again when I get home although I doubt its changed.

I was expecting Achiever and Socializer to be switched, but then again in MMOs I really take socializing over achievements as opposed to single player games.

This test is dumb, the questions are too easy to read into for the desired result letting or subconscious take over and pick and choose based not off WHO we are but what we WANT to be.

Every online "test" is like that. If you KNOW that's what's going to happen - and it will - then you just take an extra second each question and make sure your answer is the right one.

Wrong.

You cannot answer the RIGHT one when you KNOW the outcome. Simple as that really :)

You can TRY, but majority of people ARE something different than what they THINK they are. There are tests like this used int he workplace and they are done without knowing the results and most people are like WTF :p

Although in this case the helper that can help to make it more accurate is the quotes they have for each one. Giving thema more personable feel and refining WHY you pick it.

I would say this is pretty accurate to my gameplay experiences in the past. I think Socializer and killer would be closer though with Achiever being a close third.

Your gamerDNA is:KILLER

The Killer motto:"No enemy left standing!"

Description:
It's the thrill of the kill. Trophies are okay, but that momentary rush attained from besting an opponent is what it's all about.

People with high Killer scores prefer the player-versus-player aspect of any game more than anything offered by the environment. They relish the adrenaline and challenge of pitting themselves against real people. Not all Killers are gankers as some critics claim. While getting the jump on the unprepared for a quick kill is important fun for some Killers, many prefer group PvP and revel in a well executed team maneuver that blows away the opposing side.

Secondary influences
  • Killer Achievers pit themselves against PvE challenges as well--though often it's a means to an end. A KA often enjoys PvP that focuses on their skill as an individual contributor (duels, and so forth) as well as their personal position on competitive ladders and such.
  • Killer Socializers often seek out PvP in a game, but they are looking to socialize with and form alliances and teams with other players who are interested in doing the same. KS tend to seek out guilds or clans that organize formal PvP events, or work on group strategies and tactics.
  • Killer Explorers like to feel immersed in a virtual worlds and see themselves as a great villain or crusader within that world. They seek out challenges against other players, but they are going to find all the areas of that world. Trust an KE to know all the best ambush spots and sniper perches.

The connections were pretty clear, but I tried to answer honestly for each. Which I guess is the most you can do for these things.

I can always tell what answers go to what type on all those personality tests. I tried to zone out on this one and not guess which way it went.

Reminds me of the Myers-Briggs I had to take a few times in college - I think these would be more effective if you were not aware of the categories or 'buckets' that you could possibly be placed into at the end - imo

Ya, it's pretty easy to steer the results where you want it to go if you know the possible outcomes. The trick is to try to answer the questions honestly despite the urge to change the outcome.

took le test.

I knew the whole time what was going on... "If you are alone, would you rather kill someone or explore a box?" Being a psych major in college, a degree which i continue to use on a day to day basis, I was quite familiar with what was going on here. These tests try to read your mind by tracking the reaction time it takes to choose each of your answers. They then take your answer and multiply it by the sum of averages. The test collectors are then able to determine, within a significant factor of 12, if you are related to any royalty. The sum of the whole project is to spit out different percentages that correlate to your reaction time, sum of averages, and relation to any type of royalty.

That being said, I think i'm not an explorer.

Achiever it is. Apparently I'm reward-driven. Sounds about right... doing stuff without rewards is for chumps.

I am thinking that i might go with either the explorer or maybe the settler. Both sound really appealing to me

Explorer: 73%, Achiever: 60%, Socializer: 47%, Killer: 27%

Sounds about right.

I'm most drawn to the explorer path since I think they have the most interesting game mechanic (so far), and I love "area access" type puzzles, but I think the explorer path will be pretty saturated. Explorer path doesn't seem like it will suffer too much from saturation though, compared to how a Settler likely would with the limited nodes on outposts and needing strategic campfire placement and such... I think all the paths sound really fun though, and who am I kidding, I'll try them all.

That's exactly what I had in mind. I'll just have to adjust which path I want for which class as "most beneficial/efficient".

100% I go settler, but I am interested in what the scientist path has to offer - if it's mostly lore oriented then I'll probably pass, but if it has extra crafting utility (maybe you can unlock certain materials or properties through closer scientific examination?) then I'll likely roll a scientist as my crafting alt
