GW2 All Aboard the Bot Train!

Ban-hammer incoming, if there is any good in this world.

They will ban them. What ANet does is watch and follow and track the botters to find their connections to others to catch as many as possible. Then they roll out a super massive ban wave.

I am starting to get super annoyed with all the botters that are getting away with running for so long though. I would much rather see them get locked or banned right away so they cant get the advantage for the time they are left up. It hurts the game and the economy. Then when they do get a ban its only a week or 2 before they are up and running again.

A couple of hours ago, I saw the same bots I've seen many times before in Frostgorge. I've reported them several times, starting a couple of weeks ago. Honestly, I've noticed zero difference since the banning. Maybe they're hitting non-80 hotspots. :/

I ran into a cluster of them in Kessex hills. they were teleporting around and killing level 16 insects. It was pretty annoying to have them blinking all over the place.

The problem with such a care bear friendly, everyone cooperate together game is that players can't do much about the problem themselves. At least in WoW I could PK them, or at least make their life difficult by stealing their kills. I don't think GW2 would be much improved by allowing kill stealing and PKing, but there are times when it is appropriate.

I don't know if these botters are even trying to hide their names anymore. A gibberish character name is usually a dead giveaway and not to mention they never stop moving unless they're in combat.

No, it seems very blatant. Maybe they know the ban hammer is coming so they are picking up the pace?

I would think that the 5 character slot limit would help in keeping the bot population down, but apprently they are buying more character slots or copies of the game. Of course if they are hacking, they may have ways around that without paying.

That's the most ridiculous bot train I have ever seen, lol. There was one bot area in Frostgorge Sound that I saw but there was a crap ton right on top of each other in one spot not moving just randomly shooting, lol. I got a hoot out of the ant video xD

Hey folks,
Since it has been a few weeks since we gave an update on this, just wanted to quickly update where we stand. We recently hired an entire new team of people with one mission in mind: operation bot destruction.
They’ve been getting everything in place to accomplish our goal of making botting, hacking, spamming, and malicious behavior as non-existent as possible in Gw2. In the last few weeks, over 10,000 bot accounts were banned from the game alone. Another area of massive improvement has been in account security, where our two-factor authentication as well as your password changes have led to account thefts dropping to a tiny rate. A vast majority of account thieves use those accounts to run bots and/or perform RMT transactions, so our serious beefing up of account security has led to fewer bots, and most importantly fewer stolen accounts. That being said, we have massive improvements on the way in the next couple of weeks that help us detect, verify, and remove botters.
What we don’t want to do is have someone report you as botting, we ban the account, the bot appeals, and we have no data to prove they were botting on file so we have to give them the account back. Ensuring we have 100% clear data on bots that’s incredibly easy for our GM team to quickly verify, and when an appeal is submitted verify within seconds if the person was truly botting is our most important goal. We don’t want to ban people who were not botting, and we want to keep the people who are permanently locked out.
Bottom line: We’re doing ok, but we know we can and need to do much better on this front and are putting massive resources behind ensuring we have a permanent solution to this issue. You’ll see a dramatic improvement in this area in the next few weeks as our remaining detection and bot destruction tools and staff come online.
We’ll continue to keep updating on this front as we go forward, but rest assured we are aware of issues folks are raising and take them incredibly seriously. From FOV to bots, account restoration to more awesome stuff to do at level 80 we have teams working like mad on all of these fronts.

It's nice to see responses from ANet on issues like this whether they're just words or not.
I've noticed less bots in-game lately, and a lot less gold sellers.

Granted I've been spending more time in cities and Halloween areas with the events going on, but maybe ANet is actually doing something. Feels that way.

On a different note, does anyone else see the swarm of Juvenile Brown Bears before the actual bots? Happens every time.

Apparently a huge ban wave is happening, and Anet is going with "ban all the things" that look suspicious (which I support). I'd rather see them overzealous with banning than the rampant botting that has been going on for so long. There are, however, a ton of people reporting they've been banned and they supposedly weren't botting.. so, yeah...

Yeah, I've heard that. I've also heard that prices of certain things are going up because of less bots. I don't know if that's true or not.
